About Eva
In 2018, my prayers started to take the form of melodies. By 2019, my choir director pointed at my laptop and said, “That’s your studio.” I’ll always remember that moment, unlocking the reality that I don’t need permission to start and create. I began making music and felt an undeniable sense of alignment and assignment as my ideas took shape. I became determined to stop hiding my light. Fear gave way to healing and growth when I remembered that God is the ultimate reason to sing. I realized I needed to return to Him the gift He gave me, multiplying it to be a light in the world. The more I create, the more I realize it all comes down to trusting Him.
I aim to make pure, soulful music for those facing tensions, seeking joy and meaning in the wake of brokenness from relationships and even the disillusionment many carry from a fractured Church. I create with emotional honesty and depth allowing my music to make room for doubt, tension, and genuine faith while offering a steady companionship - guiding listeners through darkness toward joy, truth, hope and light.
Since I began writing, I’ve been building a vibrant community of fellow artists, collaborating with platforms like Amen Worldwide, One Big Family, Creators Creations Create, Redeemed Art Collective, theOLOGY, Integrity Music, and more.
In 2021, my friends and I launched Fam Jam, a DC-based creative community that hosts intimate house shows featuring local artists of all kinds. This incubator of creativity has fueled my confidence as a performer and inspired me to keep creating, while also encouraging others to step out in courage, share their hearts, and connect through art.
Beyond being an independent artist, I served as an education coordinator at 24/7 Artists, where I develop and implement educational programs and resources to support independent musicians. This launched me into starting my own company called Evoca Studios where I currently teach vocal lessons, vocal workshops, and curate live music shows and other events revolving around opportunities to evoke faithful and courageous musical artistry.
Choir has always been a space where I felt safe, heard, and fully alive. My journey in ensembles, from elementary school to graduate school, has deeply shaped my sound. Early on, my love for music was nurtured by my band director, John Kovalchik, and my high school choir director, Robert Drafall. At Penn State, I sang in Essence of Joy under Dr. Anthony Leach, and in graduate school, I was part of the African American Choral Ensemble at Indiana University, directed by Dr. Raymond Wise. The mentorship, inspiration, and direction of Dr. Leach and Dr. Wise played an integral role in why I create music today.
